Authenticity, condition and fit are three different questions. An authentic piece can show wear, and a tagged size does not tell you exactly how it will fit. Use this guide alongside the individual listing before buying pre-owned luxury streetwear.

Our condition grades

The following scale comes from our How We Authenticate page. A grade is a summary; the listing's specific disclosures matter just as much.

  • 10/10: Deadstock. Never worn.
  • 9/10: Excellent. Worn once or twice, no flaws.
  • 8/10: Very good. Light use, no major flaws.
  • 7/10: Good. Visible wear, described in the listing.
  • Below 7: Heavier wear, described explicitly.

If a listing uses an intermediate grade, read the description rather than assuming a precise number of wears or a universal standard. Ask about any wording that seems inconsistent.

What to look for beyond the number

Check for fading, print cracking, pilling, stains, holes, seam damage and repairs. For hardware, look for scratches, finish wear and any disclosed replacements. Ask where wear appears and request close-ups when needed.

Wear can be part of a pre-owned piece's appeal, but it should still be understood before purchase. Neither wear nor pristine condition proves authenticity. Photos may not capture every texture or colour accurately.

Tagged size versus measured fit

Start with the tagged size, then compare actual measurements. Fit can vary between brands, models and production periods. Previous wear, alterations and care may also affect dimensions. Do not assume every piece with the same size label fits alike.

Compare with a garment you already own

  1. Choose a similar garment that fits you well and lay it flat without stretching.
  2. Confirm how the listing's chest and length measurements were taken. Do not assume a chest measurement is a body circumference or a flat width.
  3. Measure your garment using the same start and end points, and the same units.
  4. For sleeves, shoulders, trousers or other dimensions, request the relevant measurements if they are not listed.
  5. Allow for your preferred fit and the garment's construction rather than treating measurements as a fit guarantee.

A flat chest width and a chest circumference are different measurements. Doubling a flat width does not necessarily describe how a garment will sit on the body. When the listing's method is unclear, ask before purchasing.

Useful questions before buying

  • Where exactly were chest and length measured?
  • Are there alterations, repairs or replaced components?
  • Can you show close-ups of the disclosed wear?
  • Does the condition description explain the grade?
